　　化学与生物工程系一直致力于为人类社会制造有益的产品，与历史上也没有哪个时期比如今对生物工程及纳米技术等领域发展更加如火如荼。环境工程研究则是对整个星球的维护做出巨大贡献。

　　我校长期以来重视环境改良技术的开发，化学与环境工程双学科的结合使我们更有信心和力量迎接新纪元的挑战。我们利用所掌握的生物技术最大可能地领导人们为人类福祉贡献力量，这是IIT最重要也是最领先的工作。

The very earliest record of chemical engineering studies at the then Armour Institute surfaced in the year 1894 in the joint department of chemistry and chemical engineering. Under the directorship of Dr. James C. Foye, professor of chemistry, a four-year curriculum leading to the B.S. degree in chemical engineering was developed and implemented.
