| 计算机是否必须? |
| Not necessarily.
IIT does not require students to bring computers with them, nor do we make any recommendations of specific brands, models or platforms of personal computers that students should purchase. IIT maintains several hundred computers for student use in computer laboratories on campus. However, students who wish to bring their own computers are encouraged to do so. The following information may be useful to those who are planning to make a computer purchase.
Computers at IIT run on a number of different platforms including Windows 2000/XP, Mac OS, Linux and Unix. PC laboratories containing such computers are available throughout academic buildings, residence halls, fraternity and sorority houses. A campus-wide Ethernet network links these laboratories and a number of dedicated servers with a wide variety of software. Network connections are available from dormitory rooms at no charge. All students have e-mail accounts and Web access through the IIT domain. Students have dialup access to these Internet services, free of charge.
The Microsoft Office?software suite is widely used on campus, and can often be bought bundled with the hardware when a computer is purchased. Communications software (e.g.Telnet and SSH) and a Web browser are also recommended. Introductory math classes for engineering and science students make use of the MAPLE symbolic mathematics program, while MATLAB is extensively used in engineering classes.
Students may consider buying a laptop computer. Laptops have the advantage of easy portability (for example, they can be brought into labs and classrooms), but are generally more expensive. Technical information and help in selecting a desktop or laptop can be obtained by contacting Office of Technology Services (OTS) by phone at 312.567.3375, via email at supportdesk@iit.edu, or through the OTS website. On the website you can review the recommended computer specifications and a list of vendors that have partnered with IIT to provide educational discounts. |

如何选择室友?

| You may choose or housing will choose for you. When we send your housing contract, we will also send you a questionnaire that we will use to help match you with a roommate with similar interests and living habits. You will be notified of your roommate and room assignment in mid-July. If you already know someone you would like to room with, let us know and we will do our best to honor your request. Preview Weekend is also a great opportunity in the spring to meet potential roommates |

| Lots of stuff!
Athletics and working out
KeatingSportsCenter is a multi-purpose facility, and can accommodate everything from varsity sports to workouts in the fitness center. It houses a basketball/volleyball court with seating for 1,600; a multipurpose practice area; the six-lane, 25-yard Ekco Pool; four racquetball/ handball courts; a fitness room with free weights and Eagle Cybex equipment. Open recreation times are available to all students. The Athletic Department sponsors men's and women's varsity teams in basketball, soccer, swimming, and cross-country, as well as men's varsity baseball and women's varsity volleyball. Soaring, cricket, martial arts, fencing, and men's volleyball are offered as club sports. A wide range of intramural activities also is available.
Clubs
No matter what your extracurricular interests may be, we've probably got an organization of like-minded people. And if we don't have one, it's easy to get something started! We have religious, ethnic, and cultural groups, as well as students who like to get together and share interests in everything from gaming to environmental activism.
Music
Music lovers will be pleased to know that the VanderCook College of Music (VCM) is located on the IIT campus. IIT students can take non-performance classes at VCM to satisfy part of their general education requirements. Performance courses may also be used as free electives in certain programs. There are discounted fees for these courses and you must be a full-time IIT student in good standing to take them. Additionally, students may be asked to audition or satisfy other requirements prior to acceptance into a VCM course.
Our campus is also home to WIIT 88.9 FM, the student run radio station located in the McCormickTribuneCampusCenter. WIIT offers a variety of music genres and gives our students the opportunity to volunteer as DJs and play some of their favorite tunes. Rock on!
Union Board Activities
This student run organization helps bring speakers to campus, show weekly movies, book concerts and comedians, and plan the Spring Formal and Homecoming among other things. Past events have included concerts by Vertical Horizon, They Might Be Giants, and 9 Days, comedic performances by Jim Carrey and local talents, and formal dances held at The Drake, Adler Planetarium and the SearsTower. |

| 校园内的学生住宿情况? |
| In a residence hall or fraternity/sorority house.
McCormick Student Village (MSV) is a complex of six interconnected residence halls. This option offers a high value and provides casual spaces for students to study, relax, talk, play music, watch TV or just hang out with friends. Each residence hall room includes a basic furniture package and is ready for your personal touch.
StateStreetVillage (SSV) is our brand new five-story, three building complex designed by world-renowned architect, Helmut Jahn. These feature many different living options. Two of the buildings offer 66 two-bedroom, semi-suites, with limited availability offered to freshman. The third building consists of apartment style units complete with fully equipped kitchens.
Six fraternities and two sororities have their own on-campus housing. Choosing the right fraternity or sorority is like finding the right roommate or social group. Each Greek organization has something a little different to offer. Rush kicks off early during Orientation Week, which gives you a chance to visit the houses and meet Greek members before making your decision.

The McCormickTribuneCampusCenter features the main cafeteria as well as the Global Grounds coffee shop, 7-Eleven, Center Court restaurant, and the Faculty Club Dining Room. There is also a snack shop located in the Hermann Union Building (HUB). Students can choose a meal plan that provides additional points to be used around campus including vending machines. If the options on campus don't satisfy your appetite, you are near from numerous downtown Chicago restaurants with vast types of cuisine. We recommend the classic Chicago-style pizza or visiting nearby Chinatown for some delicious Asian dishes. |

选择校园住宿,需要携带的物品?

Lots of stuff! A typical residence hall room includes basic furniture like a desk with shelves, chair, bed, dresser and closet each for you and your roommate. Pack with space (or the lack of it) in mind. You will need to bring your own toiletries and linens. Please note: The beds are extra-long twins, so you will need to find the right size sheets! You can rent a small refrigerator or a combined microwave-refrigerator unit (micro-fridge) from IIT. Although you can bring your own small refrigerator, microwaves are not allowed (they eat up too much energy). Micro-fridges are okay because they alternate energy consumption between the microwave and the refrigerator. You can also bring your computer, bike, stereo and a small TV, but not your pets! Well, maybe a goldfish. More specific suggestions on what to pack will be included with your housing packet. You may always contact the Housing Office at 312.567.5075 or via email at housing1@iit.edu if you have any further questions. Or contact the Residence Life Office at 312.808.6400.

| 能在入学时将汽车一并带来吗? |
| Yes, but it is not necessary. IIT has the advantage of being located between two major elevated train lines that offer a quick way to get downtown as well as O'Hare and Midway airports. Students are issued a U-Pass at the beginning of the year for unlimited rides on Likewise, IIT offers a free shuttle bus service to our students for easy access to and from the downtown Metra and Amtrak train stations as well as the local grocery store and our downtown campus. |
