怎样才能在众多助学金竞争者中脱颖而出?
|
| We suggest you follow these steps:
1. Read information that you receive about financial aid immediately so you don't miss deadlines.
2. Do yourself a favor and submit your FAFSA in January. You'll need all your tax information to do this. You don't need to file your tax forms before you submit your FAFSA, but they both use the same information. Be sure your Social Security number is listed correctly, and that your name is exactly as shown on Social Security records.
3. When you receive your SAR from the Department of Education, review it carefully. Make sure all the information was processed correctly and that IIT is listed (our FAFSA code is 001691).
4. Start looking for outside scholarships now and make sure to notify IIT if you are awarded any so we can apply it to your financial aid package. If any questions arise, the Admission and Financial Aid offices can help to steer you in the right direction.

学校助学金分为几种?来源是什么?
|
| There are two kinds of financial aid:
Need-based aid for families who can't afford the full cost of a student's education
Merit aid, given regardless of financial need for academic, athletic, musical and/or other talents that are important to a particular college or university.
Funding for these awards comes from various places, including the federal government, your state government, the college/university you choose to attend, and private sources such as businesses, civic, religious, or philanthropic organizations. |

到达IIT时,是否需要携带现金?
|
| Yes.
You'll need some cash for the expenses of the first month, even if you are depending on financial aid to pay most of your costs. If you will be dependent on a campus job for spending money, be forewarned that paychecks are issued every two weeks. There will be some lag time between getting your job and getting paid. Prepare in advance - we don't want you to struggle financially the first month you are here. |
|
如果助学金超过在校所需费用,可否得到超额部分返还? |
| Yes.
If you've paid all your bills from IIT and still have a financial aid credit on your student account, you may request a refund. Some federal or state grants or loans require that you attend IIT 30 days before you can get a refund, meaning you may not be able to get your refund until sometime after the fourth week of classes.
If you think you are entitled to a refund, check with the StudentServiceCenter , MainBuilding , Room 104, to see how to make arrangements for it. Student Services can be reached at 312.567.3100. |

在校期间能否申请公司实习或合作项目实习? |
| Absolutely!
The Career Development Center (CDC) can assist you with finding an internship or co-op. A Co-op and Internship Interview Week (CIIW) is held every year to put you in contact with area businesses and firms. For more information about internships, co-ops and job placement at IIT, contact the CDC at 312.567.6800. |

什么是FAFSA?
|
| Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
All things begin with the FAFSA in terms of financial aid. Almost all colleges and universities require that you submit a FAFSA to a central processing agency. They send your information on a Student Aid Report (SAR) to the colleges you designate. To have your SAR sent to IIT, use our FAFSA code 001691 .
FAFSAs are available from your high school guidance office in December and may be submitted after January 1. It takes about four weeks to process your FAFSA, so mail it as early in January as possible. For faster results, we recommend completing the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov that will speed up processing time to about 2 weeks. Once we receive your SAR, we can determine your financial aid package. The SAR tells us how much you and your family are expected to contribute toward your college education. This amount is called your EFC (expected family contribution). Your EFC is recalculated each year you are in college, so the EFC you are given is for this year's college expenses only. You will find your EFC under the date on the first page of your SAR. |
|
如何理解EFC?
|
| Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
Determine your eligibility for need-based financial assistance.
We will subtract your EFC from the total cost to attend IIT and determine your financial need. With the exception of a merit scholarship, your financial aid will be determined by the amount of financial need you have. |
|
是否需要贷款?
|
| Maybe.
Some of your financial aid may be a gift to you and you will not have to repay it. Some may be work-study money, where you will actually get a job on campus and receive a paycheck, and some may be low-interest loans that you will pay back to the government or to the university after you graduate. Most loans are repaid over 10 years or more. It is rare for students not to use loans to pay for college and should be considered an investment in your future. |

Lots of stuff! A typical residence hall room includes basic furniture like a desk with shelves, chair, bed, dresser and closet each for you and your roommate. Pack with space (or the lack of it) in mind. You will need to bring your own toiletries and linens. Please note: The beds are extra-long twins, so you will need to find the right size sheets! You can rent a small refrigerator or a combined microwave-refrigerator unit (micro-fridge) from IIT. Although you can bring your own small refrigerator, microwaves are not allowed (they eat up too much energy). Micro-fridges are okay because they alternate energy consumption between the microwave and the refrigerator. You can also bring your computer, bike, stereo and a small TV, but not your pets! Well, maybe a goldfish. More specific suggestions on what to pack will be included with your housing packet. You may always contact the Housing Office at 312.567.5075 or via email at housing1@iit.edu if you have any further questions. Or contact the Residence Life Office at 312.808.6400.

如何了解第二年的需缴费用?
|
| Just do the calculation:
Your IIT bill will reflect your on-campus costs only. You will need money for tuition, room and board, fees, books and supplies, personal expenses and travel. You will be billed by IIT only for tuition, fees, and room and board (if you live on campus).
Your balance due will be the difference between the amount of your bill and the amount of credit you have on your bill. Remember, you have a $200 confirmation deposit, some of you will have a $300 housing deposit (hey, every little bit counts!) and you will have your financial aid award credited to your account.
Bills are sent to pre-registered students the first week in August. You pay your balance due twice a year, before classes begin for each semester.
If you are late applying for financial aid, your financial aid award may not be reflected on your bill. Don't panic, but do call the Financial Aid Office. Your file may be missing a document or some bit of information that is keeping your financial aid award from being credited and we can help you complete your financial aid file. |
| 是否可以获得在IIT校内打工的机会? |
| You bet!
All IIT students will have the opportunity to work on campus, either as part of the Federal Work Study Program (FWSP) or through the IIT Work Program. A specific job will not be waiting for you when you arrive, however. After you finalize your class schedule and know the hours you will be available to work, review the numerous on-campus jobs listed in the CareerDevelopmentCenter and find the perfect job! |
|
助学金能否用于缴纳教材费? |
Maybe.
If you have a credit after your financial aid award is applied to your bill, you may request a book voucher from the StudentFinanceCenter in the MainBuilding to pay for your books. The amount of your voucher will be subtracted from your financial aid credit. |
